Polyolefin shrink wrap film is a strong, flexible and puncture-resistant film that has a matte finish. It allows scents and smells to come through and does not contaminate items that has direct contact with it making it ideal for wrapping food, as well as a wide variety of retail products. Polyolefin shrink wrap film also makes it excellent for packaging multiple products together as well as irregularly-shaped items and items with sharp edges or corners.

Polyolefin shrink film requires a higher temperature to shrink than PVC shrink wrap film and works best with most one step shrink wrap systems. PVC Shrink Wrap

PVC is the traditional material used for shrink wraps. PVC shrink wrap film is the most common form of shrink wrap film and the least expensive. It is known for its strength, durability, shape conforming properties, tamper evident, and clear, glossy look. Its high clarity makes it easy to see the item wrapped under it.

There are many varieties of plastic films used for shrink wrapping on the market today.  While they’re largely interchangeable, specific tasks or specific products may require specific film.

Shrink wrap films have varying gauges, the smaller the gauge number, the thinner the film.  For most general applications, a 75 gauge film will suffice. In applications where strength is of particular concern, higher gauge films such as 100 can be used. (more…)

What is Shrink Wrap?

Shrink wrap, also called shrink film, is a polyethylene plastic that is formulated to shrink when heat is applied to it. When the material is exposed to heat, it shrinks, forming a tight seal to whatever it is wrapped around and or secured to. The shrinking process makes the plastic stronger, when installed properly, allowing it to withstand weather and other elements.
